AMI is pleased to announce
that MTWA-2.
, the Institute's 33ft-10.4 metre sailing yacht will be sailing into
Western Australia
in October. The MTWA-2 will open new
opportunities and create new access pathways to education and vocational
training.
The boat is earmarked as a
training vessel for Young Adult Programs to underpin training such as: At
Risk Youth and Navy Cadets.
The primary objective of
such programs is to return lost values and skills to the maritime industry; to
attract the youth of today back to a career on the ocean, to provide a
counteractive measure to assist the maritime industry's demise in its workforce
of qualified and skilled maritime seafarers; and to develop young adults for
tomorrow's world.
Within this objective an
important role the boat will perform is to act as an incentive that motivates
and rewards young individuals who are not conventional learners and or may not
have had access to normal training opportunities but wish to develop themselves,
a career and to become valued members of the community.
The industry, schools,
local community and wider public will be invited to view the MTWA-2 once she is
fully refitted. It is anticipated that
her official launch will take place in November and the Maritime Training WA's
friendly crew will be at hand to answer any inquiries.
