Policies and Privacy Statement


Policies 1 of 4

Under its quality system, the Australasian Maritime Institute has set policies regarding refunding, privacy, discrimination, code of conduct and other such areas.

The Australasian Maritime Institute has in place the following policies:

Welfare & Guidance Services: If any student requires Welfare or Guidance Advice, the staff of the Australasian Maritime Institute can arrange a meeting with the Principal or Senior Lecturer or related person to discuss the student's problems and provide advice of guidance.

Appeals, Complaints & Grievances: Every student has the ability to lodge an appeal, compliant or grievance. All lodged forms are put through an appeal, complaint and grievance process which ensures a fair and just hearing.

Disciplinary Procedures: The Australasian Maritime Institute has in place a Code of Conduct and any breach of this code can result in disciplinary action being taken which can range from a simple verbal warning to expulsion.

Staff Responsibilities for Access and Equity: All Australasian Maritime Institute's staff have the responsibility to ensure that the access and equity policies are observed and complied with at all times.

Records: Any student has the ability to have access to their records at any time upon written request. All candidates will be provided feedback on their assessments.

Safety: The Australasian Maritime Institute has a duty of care to all students and staff that attend the school and firmly believes in following the Australian Occupational Health and Safety Policy Act at all times. However the Australasian Maritime Institute is not liable for any irresponsible act committed by a student or staff member that results in an injury.

Literacy: If any student believes that they have trouble understanding or comprehending the material being presented in class due to literacy problems then they have the ability and the right to approach the lecturers or staff and request assistance. Literacy and numeracy assessments can be made available.

Re-sit Policy: If a student needs to re-sit part of or a whole course again due to failure or other reasons, then this tuition can be undertaken again with no further fee. NOTE: This is only valid for students who have fully paid all fees owing and must be undertaken within 2 years from the date of the original course. A fee however will apply to undertake a new assessment and will also apply to any private tuition requested outside the scheduled course structure time frame.

Refunds: A student has the ability to claim a refund on a course dependent on the following conditions:

i. A student can claim a course refund prior to a week preceding the commencement of the course minus an administration fee.

ii. A student can only claim a course credit within one week preceding the commencement of the course minus an administration fee.

iii. A student who has commenced a course is not entitled to a refund.

iv. Any study guide that is issued prior to the commencement of the course is to be returned and if damaged or used, a replacement cost will be added to the administration fee.

It is the standard policy of the Australasian Maritime Institute to withhold Qualifications or Statement of Attainments until ALL course fees are paid in full.
