Certificate of Safety Training

ImageSTCW is part of maritime law and is enforced around the world. Whilst it covers all certification and training across the entire maritime industry the term STCW or STCW 95 is normally used to describe the basic maritime safety training that all crew must undertake before they can go to sea, and covers: 

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (Basic Fire) 3 Day 
Elementary First Aid (EFA)  2 Day
Personal Survival Techniques (PST) 2 Day
Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)  2 Day

This nine day course is designed to provide students with knowledge, skills and proficiency in types of emergency situations and survival at sea. The course provides students with the necessary qualification required in the maritime industry as the first stepping stone to a pathway for a professional and successful career at sea.

Fire fightingAbout This Course

This is a three day course which complies to STCW 78 Code Section A-VI/1 Table A-VI/1-2 Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. The course consists of subjects such as shipboard fire fighting organization, the elements of fire, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use, automatic alarm system familiarisation, extinguisher usage, classes of fire and teamwork exercises.

Please be advised that this course is heavily based in practical exercises and if you have any condition that would effect your training then you must make the instructors aware. If you do not disclose a condition and fail the course due to an undisclosed condition then a refund will not be available.

This is one of the four courses required to obtain the Certificate of Safety Training from AMSA. The Certificate of Safety Training is the minimum requirement for a general purpose hand on any sea going vessel or any vessel operating offshore in the Austrailan Coastal Middle Water regions.

Senior First AidAbout This Course

Knives, fishing gear, venomous sea life, galleys and engine spaces - as well as a range of potential accidents - provide endless opportunities for injury at sea. This two day course teaches the fundamental principles, knowledge and essential practical skills to enable the first aider to administer a wide range of emergency care to aid a victim of injury and illness until professional medical help is on hand. The course provides a good grounding in first aid and qualifies students to perform life support skills. This course satisfies training requirements across many industries and attainment of this qualification will enable you to progress on to further courses. The Senior First Aid certificate is valid for three (3) years.

Please be advised that AMSA will not accept a Senior First Aid Certificate issued by Red Cross or St Johns or any other established first aid provider. AMSA will only accept the Elementary First Aid as approved by AMSA.  AMSA will allow Recognition of Senior First Aid certificates for the Elementary First Aid by an AMSA approved RTO under certain conditions.
