Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Master Class 5)

About This Course
This six week course is aimed at a person wishing to operate a less than 24-metre vessel up to offshore limits (within 100 nautical miles). The course is designed to provide students with knowledge, skills and competencies, which qualify them to be a Master of a fishing and/or trading vessel less than 20 metres up to offshore limits (within 200 nautical miles). This course has a strong practical emphasis with students undertaking vessel manoeuvring, stability, navigation, refuelling etc.

The AMI marine simulator is used to allow students to complete a practical assessment of their navigation skills. To be eligible for the issue of the Certificate of Competency students must also provide evidence of 30 months qualifying Seatime*AMI recommends that All seatime should be verified by WA Department of Transport before commencing a course.  However seatime is not a requirement to undetake the course. The qualification meets with the WA Department of Transport requirements. The Master Class 5 is the industry entry standard for mariners wishing to further their careers on the Deck side.

Core Competency

A person who has obtained a Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 5 is able to act in the following capacity:

Master of a fishing and/or trading vessel less than 24 metres up to offshore limits (within 200 nautical miles)
