Our Vision

The Australasian Maritime Institute will pursue world's best practice in the efficient provision of the highest quality vocational education and training, relevant to the needs of the maritime sector.

This will be achieved by continuing to serve the Government, maritime industry, seafarers and the community through developing relationships with stakeholders, by applying leading management techniques and solutions, efficient and effective organisational systems and state of the art technology to meet their needs. This includes access to information and knowledge, partnering opportunities and a support network for practitioners.

Valuing our Staff

This process will be undertaken while maintaining a keen focus on the rights, needs and morale of our own employees. We believe that our capacity and capability are built upon the skills, knowledge and attitudes of our people and the resources they have at their disposal. That is why we are continually investing in the development of our staff and the teams they operate within.

Goals

The Australasian Maritime Institutes Corporate Plan is to work with industry, government authorities and wider community to realise the following goals:

1. to achieve strong growth in student numbers;
2. to conduct teaching and learning that aligns with best practice in the vocational education sector;
3. to development vocational education and training strategies and initiatives to support and enhance competencies; 
4. to develop strategies to assist industry to attract, recruit train and retain mariners; 
5. to design strategies to assist industry in creating, sharing and sustaining modal, organisational and individual knowledge
3. to implement business development processes and finance and administration systems to achieve best practice in the vocational education sector;
4. to foster a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement;
6. to build on core competence by filling the gaps not addressed by conventional statutory training
7. to enrich individual and collective value by continuous learning of both the participants and the Institute
5. to enrich the intellectual, cultural, educational, economic and social life of AIM's community

Philosophy

It is the philosophy of the Australasian Maritime Institute to present courses which are relevant and interesting to all seafarers and to ensure the institutes programs offer a unique curriculum of classroom instruction and experiential learning at sea. The derivative, to equip our students with the combination of knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving, ethical decision making, and confidence which will enable them to safely and efficiently operate, maintain, and manage the vessels of today and the maritime industry of tomorrow. In accordance with such a philosophy AMI embodies the pursuit of excellence in maritime education and upholds the century tradition of providing skilled seafarers within and from Australian waters.

Registered Training Organisation

AMI is a Registered Training Organisation (number 2407) through the WA Training Accreditation Council. This status recognises AMI's commitment to provide quality vocational education and training to industry and learners in Western Australia. Many qualifications issued by AMI are nationally recognised in accordance with the national system of skills recognition.
